Yannis Tseklenis

Designers

Today his name is included in fashion encyclopaedias next to Emilio Pucci and Leonard. For twenty years now he has been a genuine Santorini lover. Having his house in Oia as his hide-out, he has been the designer of the gorgeous Vedema, Zannos Melathron, La Maltese restaurant and others. He considers Santorini to be the cradle of the Aegean architecture. “A unique phaenomenon worldwide”, he says, but does not hesitate to express also his objections. “I regard Santorini as the most illustrative example for the magnitude of catastrophe the Contemporary Greek can cause to his/her heritage. We have had a sacred duty to protect this heritage. Santorini had better forget jaccuzis and offer pure things”. His favourite spots on the island are Lotza of Oia (far from July-August), Ammoudi, Kato Fira at Agios Minas, Kasteli of Emporeio, the Castle of Pyrgos. His best moments on the island: the dawn at Imerovigli with a view over Anafi and the sunset which makes you feel as if hanging from an ancient theatre where the sun is the protagonist on stage.
